Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 83 runs to level the T20I series 1-1 in Dambulla today (July 13).
Sri Lanka put the visitors in to bat after winning the toss and started well, removing both Bangladesh openers by the second over. Captain Litton Das (76 off 50) and Towhid Hridoy (31 off 25) then stitched a 69-run third-wicket partnership in 9.1 overs. Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were dismissed in quick succession but Shamim Hossain joined hands with Das to play a match-defining cameo at No.7.
Hossain smashed 48 off 27 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes, adding 77 runs for the sixth wicket with Das. Bangladesh finished on 177-7 from their 20 overs. Binura Fernando was the pick of Sri Lanka's bowlers with 3-31.

Sri Lanka never got going in their run-chase, losing four wickets for 30 runs in the first 5.1 overs. Kusal Mendis was first run out in the second over before Shoriful Islam snapped up the wickets of Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando in the third and fifth. Captain Charith Asalanka then fell to Mohammad Saifuddin in the sixth over.
A 41-run stand between Pathum Nissanka and Dasun Shanaka gave some hope, but another collapse saw the hosts get bowled out for 94 in 15.2 overs. Shoriful and Saifuddin took two wickets each while Rishad Hossain took 3-18, the best figures in the innings.
Bangladesh's victory margin of 83 runs is now their biggest in men's T20Is against Full Member nations (while batting first), beating their previous record of an 80-run win against the West Indies in December last year.
Overall, this is their second-biggest men's T20I victory after their 84-run win over PNG at the 2021 T20 World Cup. While batting second, Bangladesh's biggest margin of victory is a 10-wicket win against USA at the 2024 T20 World Cup. They won that game with 50 balls remaining chasing 105.
The series decider will be played on July 16 in Colombo. Earlier in the tour, Bangladesh lost the Test series 0-1 and the ODI series 1-2.
