The first Test of the two-match series had ended in a draw, but Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by an innings to get a boost in their 2025-27 World Test Championship campaign. Here is the points table after that.
Only 30 wickets fell in the first Test match between the sides, at Galle. Bangladesh’s late third-innings declaration had not left their bowlers enough time to push for a win.
Sri Lanka bowled out Bangladesh for 247 on the first day of the second Test, at the SSC in Colombo. Seven visiting batters went past 20 but among them, Shadman Islam (46) was the only one to go past 35. For the hosts, Asitha Fernando (3-51) and debutant Sonal Dinusha (3-22) snared three wickets apiece.
With a 158 that lasted six hours and a bit, Pathum Nissanka then helped the hosts amass 458. Support came from Dinesh Chandimal (93) and Kusal Mendis (84) even as Taijul Islam (5-131) and Nayeem Hasan (3-87) shared eight wickets.
Trailing by 211, Bangladesh were left in tatters at 115-6 at stumps on the third day. On the fourth morning, they folded for 133 to lose by an innings and 78 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 26 as Prabath Jayasuriya (5-56) picked up his 12th five-wicket haul. With the win, Sri Lanka took the series 2-0.
