Kamil Mishara has been rewarded for excellent form in the domestic circuit and has been called up to the Sri Lanka squad for the second Test against India.
Mishara has been in great form this season and smashed a record-breaking unbeaten 145 off 72 deliveries for his side, Nondescripts, in a Major Clubs T20 tournament, a domestic competition. This is the joint-highest score in a T20 in Sri Lanka and also the highest by any Sri Lankan batter in the shortest format of the game. The 25-year-old smacked 11 sixes and as many fours during his swashbuckling knock at the Colts Cricket Club ground in Colombo.
It followed his sensational Lanka Premier League, where Mishara was named the player of the tournament earlier this month. He was the third-highest run-scorer with 411 runs in nine innings at an average of 51.37 and a strike rate of 165.06.
Mishara had also scored a brilliant 174 off just 168 balls in the second unofficial Test against New Zealand A in April this year, with his run of form culminating in his call-up to Sri Lanka’s Test side as the hosts look to level the series.
Sri Lanka are without Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka and Dinesh Chandimal for the SSC Test. This might pave the way for Mishara’s Test debut, and he could even open the innings with opener Nishan Madushka dropped.
Another uncapped player, all-rounder Sahan Arachchige, has been included in the squad after an impressive show against India A just over a month ago. He was the second-highest run-scorer of the two-match unofficial Test series, amassing 209 runs in three innings at an average of 69.66 with a century and a fifty to his credit.
