Playing for Mumbai against Assam in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Sarfaraz Khan smashed his maiden hundred in T20 cricket.
Sarfaraz Khan smashes 100* in 47 balls
Mumbai amassed 220-4 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow after Riyan Parag won the toss and opted to field. Having hit a hundred in each of his two previous innings, Ayush Mhatre fell for a 15-ball 21. Sarfaraz walked out at this point.
Sarfaraz and Ajinkya Rahane (42 in 33 balls) added 51 for the second wicket off 39 balls. After India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav fell for a 12-ball 20, Sarfaraz marched on, dominating a 39-run stand in which Suryansh Shedge scored only nine.
He soon went past his previous highest score of 67. As Sairaj Patil hit 25 not out in nine balls, Sarfaraz continued, eventually reaching his first hundred in the format in the last over of the innings. He finished on exactly 100 not out in 47 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes.
Sarfaraz has been playing T20 cricket since the 2012/13 season, and has played 97 games in the format across the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the IPL. However, this was only the fourth time he went past fifty.
Mumbai finished their innings on 220-4. In response, Shardul Thakur rocked Assam with three wickets in his first over, including Riyan for a two-ball duck. He picked up two more wickets in his next two overs. At the time of writing, Assam were 53-6 in 6.1 overs with Sibsankar Roy (25) and Akash Sengupta (17) at the crease.
