Playing for Andhra, Nitish Kumar Reddy completed a hat-trick in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League game against Madhya Pradesh.
Nitish Kumar Reddy gets Rajat Patidar in hat-trick
Andhra folded for 112 in 19.1 overs after Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to field at the DY Patil Stadium in Ambi. Tripuresh Singh (3-31) reduced them to 7-2 before KS Bharat (39 in 31 balls) and Reddy (25 in 27) put on 50. However, Andhra soon slumped to 86-8 against Shivam Shukla (4-23) and Rahul Batham (2-9) before semi-recovering to 112.
Defending a low target, Reddy came to bowl first-change, in the third over. With his fourth ball, he bowled opener-wicketkeeper Harsh Gawli when the latter went for a slog. With his fifth, he had Harpreet Singh caught by captain Ricky Bhui at slip. And with his sixth, he bowled Patidar – who went for a slog as well – to complete a hat-trick.
Reddy became the fifth Andhra bowler to complete a hat-trick in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, after D Sivakumar (against Hyderabad in 2013/14), DB Prasanth Kumar (against Karnataka in 2014/15), VC Stephen (against Assam in 2015/16), and BSM Ayyappa (against Kerala in 2017/18). This was also the first hat-trick of this edition of the tournament.
Madhya Pradesh were 14-3 at this stage, which became 37-4 when KV Sasikanth removed Venkatesh Iyer (22 in 18 balls). However, Rishabh Chouhan (47 in 43) and Batham (35 not out in 32) took them to the brink of victory before Chouhan went for the winning hit (and his fifty), but could only hit Satyanarayana Raju to long-on.
Madhya Pradesh eventually won with four wickets and 15 balls in hand. Reddy finished with 3-17 in three overs.
