Out-of-favour Australia opener Chris Lynn singlehandedly won Hampshire the second T20 Blast 2025 semi-final against Northamptonshire on Saturday (September 13).
Bowling first, Hampshire restricted Northamptonshire to 158-7 in an 18-over-a-side rain-curtailed match. Having slipped to 65-5, Northamptonshire recovered well thanks to an unbeaten 39-ball 61 from Justin Broad.
In reply, Hampshire's innings was dominated by a century from Lynn; the other five batters who featured all managed only single-digit scores. The match seemed to be getting close when Hampshire needed 38 from the final four overs, but Lynn unleashed mayhem against opposition spinner Lloyd Pope, blasting him for five consecutive sixes in a single over. That left them needing just eight runs from 18 balls. James Fuller then struck two fours in the 16th over, and Hampshire won by six wickets with 14 balls remaining via the DLS method with plenty of balls to spare. Fuller remained not out on 8 from 5 balls.

Nearly half an hour later, Hampshire faced Somerset in the final. A win would take their title tally to four, the most by any team.
Lynn’s unbeaten 108 off 51 balls is now the highest score on a T20 Blast Finals Day. The previous best was 92 by Luke Wright for Sussex against Somerset in the 2018 semi-final. Lynn scored 69.7 percent of his team's runs, the second-highest proportion in the history of England's domestic T20 competition. He sits only behind Cameron White, who scored 141 out of Somerset's total of 198 (71.21 percent) against Worcestershire in 2006. Overall, Lynn scored 79.6 percent (five fours and 11 sixes) of his runs in boundaries.
That was Lynn’s fourth century in the T20 Blast. His previous three coincidentally were all scored for Northamptonshire between 2021 and 2022. The 35-year-old has also played 18 T20Is and four ODIs for Australia, between 2014 and 2018. Most recently, he was part of the Australia Champions squad that reached the semi-finals of the World Championship of Legends in July 2025.
