Northants bowler Ben Sanderson took six wickets in the T20 Blast today (June 6), including a hat-trick, in a performance that ranks in the top 10 domestic T20 bowling figures of all time.
Sanderson obliterated Worcestershire in their chase of 191, which Northants had set thanks mainly to 59 off 39 from opener Ricardo Vasconcelos. Opening the bowling alongside captain and former England white-ball international David Willey, Sanderson struck four balls into his spell, dismissing Brett D'Oliveira to leave Worcestershire 13-1.
He followed up in his next over by dismissed Kashif Ali for a seven-ball 2, conceding just one run off the bat in that over to make his figures read 2-6 after two. While his third over was the only of his spell in which he failed to strike, conceding a single and four byes, Sanderson more than made up for that in his final over of the night.

Having bowled three overs back-to-back, Sanderson came back on to bowl the penultimate. At that point, Worcestershire had recovered from their early losses and needed 33 runs from the final two to win the game. Sanderson put paid to their hopes, however, dismissing Tom Hinley, who was 21 off 10 balls with his first delivery. A single followed to bring Australia international Ben Dwarshuis back on strike, who played out a dot before hitting one straight back to the bowler and becoming the first of his hat-trick victims.
Adam Finch was dismissed first ball, caught by Willey, leaving Worcestershire nine down. Sanderson wrapped up the match by dismissing Jacob Duffy for a first-baller and seal his hat-trick.
Sanderson's figures are the joint seventh-best in a men's domestic T20 match. The best figures also occurred in the T20 Blast, Colin Ackermann having taken 7-18 for Leicestershire in 2019.
