In a major breakthrough on the path to recovery, Rishabh Pant has been given the green signal by the BCCI to participate in IPL 2024 as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Rishabh Pant fully fit for IPL 2024

Pant had suffered a near-fatal car crash around 14 months back, following which he has not played a competitive game of cricket at a recognised level.

In a press release today (March 12), BCCI mentioned that “after undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, Pant has now been declared fit as a wicketkeeper-batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.”

Yesterday (March 11), the BCCI secretary Jay Shah had hinted at the return of Pant and said that they would declare him fit soon. BCCI’s announcement today has come as a welcome surprise to Pant’s fans and well-wishers around the globe.

“If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play the World Cup. Let’s see how he does in the IPL,” Shah told the PTI yesterday (March 11), raising hopes of an international comeback for Pant right after the IPL.

Prasidh, Shami ruled out of IPL 2024

Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Shami have been ruled out of IPL 2024. In a statement, the BCCI said that Krishna underwent surgery on February 23rd on his left proximal quadriceps tendon.

“He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon,” the statement said. “He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.”

Mohammed Shami also underwent a successful surgery on February 26th for his right heel problem.

“He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” the statement added.

Shami last played for India in the 2023 World Cup while Krishna played the two-Test series in South Africa earlier this year. Shami’s absence will be a cause for concern for the Gujarat Titans, who have already lost Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians. Krishna, meanwhile, missed the previous season of IPL as well due to a back issue.
