With 12 points from 12 games, Chennai Super Kings need a win here to remain ahead of their competitors in the race for playoffs. Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, need one point from three games to make it to the top four.
CSK are likely to retain their XI. For RR, Hetmyer will almost certainly miss the match. If that happens, they may go in with three overseas players and use one of Powell and Maharaj as their Impact Player. Ashwin, Chahal, and Maharaj may be more than a handful if CSK roll out the usual Chepauk surface.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (12 games, 10 points) continue to keep winning – and expect other matches to go their way – to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. A win here, on the other hand, will help Delhi Capitals escape the 12-point bracket.
RCB may go in with Maxwell and pack their line-up with as many hitters as possible to enhance their net run rate, for mere points are not going to carry them into the top four.
DC will be without Rishabh Pant, who will serve a one-match ban. Axar will lead them instead. They may push Porel down the order to fill Pant’s slot and bring in one of Warner and Shaw at to open batting with Fraser-McGurk.
