Australia completed an ultra-rate double feat while scoring 511 runs in their first innings of the Brisbane Test of Ashes 2025/26.

Australia take the lead in Brisbane after team effort

The hosts took a handsome 177-run first-innings lead by slamming 511 runs, with all of their 11 batters scoring in double digits. This was only the sixth instance of a team amassing 500 or more runs in a Test innings with none of their batters hitting a hundred.

Australia’s 511 is also the fifth-highest score by a team that didn’t have a centurion in a Test innings. Sri Lanka’s 531 is the highest such total, which came against Bangladesh in Chittagong in March 2024.

Mitchell Starc top-scored for the hosts with an assured 77 from No.9, while Jake Weatherald got to his first fifty in the format with a 72. Three other batters – Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith and Alex Carey – were dismissed in the 60s, whereas Cameron Green fell five short of a half-century.
