England players pay tribute to head of security

The intra-squad match at Lilac Hill in Perth is England's only warm-up fixture in Australia ahead of the Ashes, which begins in the same city in eight days.

Just ahead of the game, England announced on social media that the players involved would be wearing black armbands in memory of ECB head of security Phil Davies: "Today, players from both sides are wearing black armbands in memory of Phil Davies, who sadly passed away this week following a sudden cancer diagnosis.

"Phil was the ECB’s much-loved and respected Head of Security, who worked tirelessly for many years to keep players, staff and fans safe and secure.

"Rest in peace, Phil."

What happened in England's intra-squad match?

The day before the game, England skipper Ben Stokes told reporters in Australia that this practice match would be taken "very seriously": "Next few days is balls to the wall for everyone. No easing into it."

Fast bowler Brydon Carse was not part of the match due to illness. The game is an XI-a-side contest, but 13 have been named for the Lions, who will rotate while fielding.
