Harry Brook has re-entered the top two of the ICC men's Test batting rankings while England seamers have enjoyed career-best jumps in their ratings following their victory in the Boxing Day Test.
Harry Brook back in top two of Test batting rankings
Harry Brook's quickfire knock of 41 off 34 in the first innings of the MCG Test, where England were bowled out for 110, along with his second-innings 18* off 22 has helped the England vice-captain jump three places from fifth to second in the latest ICC men's Test batting rankings.
Brook has leapfrogged Travis Head, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson, who are now fourth, fifth, and third respectively. The other movement in the top 10 is that of Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who has slipped from ninth to 13th, helping Saud Shakeel move from 10th to ninth and Shubman Gill go up from 11th to 10th.
England opener Zak Crawley, meanwhile, has gained four spots to equal 35th with Bangladesh's Litton Das thanks to his 37 in the fourth innings at MCG.
Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse achieve career-best Test bowling rankings
There has been significant movement in the bowling rankings following the Boxing Day Test, which saw 36 wickets fall inside two days. England quicks Brydon Carse (match figures of 5-76) and Josh Tongue (match figures of 7-89, which included a first-innings five-for) have achieved career-best ranks of 23 and 30 respectively, moving up by six and 13 spots.
Gus Atkinson has also gained four spots and is now joint 13th with Ravindra Jadeja. Pat Cummins, meanwhile, has dropped out of the top two after missing the MCG Test, paving way for Mitchell Starc and Noman Ali to become joint-second.
Starc's all-rounder ranking has dropped though, from No.3 to No.5, while Atkinson's has risen from No.10 to No.8.
