Australia beat England in the first Test of the 2025-26 Ashes in Perth. Here's what the World Test Championship points table looks like after the result.
England scraped to 172 in their first innings but still seized control by skittling out Australia for 132, thanks to Ben Stokes’ sixth five-for. Australia hit back through Scott Boland’s 4-33 and another three-for from Mitchell Starc, who had taken 7-58 earlier.
Chasing 205, Travis Head produced a blistering 69-ball hundred – the fourth-fastest by an Australian – storming to 123 off 83 deliveries. His assault, featuring 16 fours and four sixes, powered Australia to victory in just 28.2 overs with eight wickets in hand. Their scoring rate of 7.23 was the highest ever in a 200-plus fourth-innings chase in Tests, eclipsing England’s 5.98 against New Zealand in 2022. The match’s two-day finish placed it among the shortest Tests in history.
