Josh Tongue dismissed Kane Williamson and David Warner to help Manchester Originals defeat London Spirit in a 2025 Men’s Hundred match at Old Trafford.
Manchester Originals posted 163-6 after Phil Salt won the toss and opted to bat. Jos Buttler top-scored with a 37-ball 46, while contributions came from Salt (31 in 20 balls), Ben McKinney (29 in 12), and Heinrich Klaasen (24 in 17).
Olly Stone and Jamie Overton completed their quotas of 20 balls to respectively finish with 2-27 and 2-26.
Tongue sends back Warner, Williamson
Warner and Williamson opened batting for London Spirit. Williamson never got going and struggled to put the ball away, but Warner went after Tongue, smashing him for four and six in the third set. The tourists reached 73-0 at the halfway mark, but Noor Ahmad’s excellent over went for only two, pushing the target to 89 in 45 balls.
Having conceded 13 in his first two sets, Tongue returned to bowl at this point. The ball was slightly short of a good length: Williamson tried to pull, but the ball came quicker than he had anticipated, and he could only hole out in the deep. Williamson fell for a 20-ball 19 that included only two fours.
Warner continued with the onslaught. When Tongue tried to bounce, Warner calmly dismissed him to the point boundary, but Noor slipped in a set of five runs. By the time Tongue returned for his final set, London Spirit needed 38 in 15 balls.
Yet again Tongue struck with the first ball of a spell. He bowled on the leg stump. Warner, trying to loft it, could only nick it to Buttler and walk back for a 51-ball 71. He had hit 12 fours and a six.
Tongue struck again three balls later, having Sean Dickson caught behind off his glove. He finished with 3-29 off his 20 balls, leaving London Spirit to chase 30 in 10 balls. In the end, Manchester Originals won by 10 runs.
