Amelia Kerr produced one of the greatest rescue acts in women’s T20 history, smashing an unbeaten 69 after her team slipped to 64-8, inspiring MI London to a dramatic three-run victory over London Spirit at Lord's on Wednesday.
Walking in after the fall of the first two wickets with the scorecard reading 13-2, Kerr watched the innings unravel around her. Charlie Dean's three-wicket burst left MI London reeling at 23-5 after 36 balls. Although Chinelle Henry briefly counterattacked with a 15-ball 22, the collapse continued. By the time Tara Norris became the eighth batter dismissed, MI London had slumped to 64-8, at risk of falling to their lowest total in the competition.
Kerr, however, held one end up, striking five fours and four sixes in 41 balls to guide the team over the 120-run mark. She played a lone hand in the recovery: barring Henry, no other batter reached double figures.
In reply, London Spirit stumbled early, collapsing to 51-4 before Marizanne Kapp (34) and Nadine de Klerk (35) revived the chase with a half-century partnership. Kerr (20-20-1) broke the stand by dismissing Kapp, but Spirit were still in the game, needing 18 off the last 10 balls.
Hayley Matthews conceded three runs and picked up two wickets, which helped MI London register a narrow three-run win.
The dramatic victory set a Women's Hundred record for the lowest score after the eighth wicket that resulted in a victory in the history of the competition. The previous record belonged to London Spirit, who had collapsed to 84-8 against the Oval Invincibles before posting 118-9 and then won by 21 runs, back in 2023.
