No.8 Auqib Nabi and No.9 Vanshaj Sharma helped Jammu & Kashmir pull off an incredible heist against Hyderabad in the 2025/26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Auqib Nabi, Vanshaj Sharma pull off incredible heist
Opening bowling, Nabi had taken 3-56 as Hyderabad put up 268-9 after J&K captain Shubham Khajuria won the toss and opted to field at Rajkot. The openers, Aman Rao (60) and Rahul Singh (56), both got fifties, while Nitesh Reddy remained unbeaten on 54.
In response, Mohammed Siraj (2-45) and Chama Milind (2-54) – stepping in for captain for Tilak Varma (who has been ruled out of the tournament) – struck twice each. As their teammates also stepped up, J&K became 90-7 in the 23rd over.
But neither Nabi nor Vanshaj got out. With the asking rate well over a run a ball, they continued to score quickly. They completed the chase with 13 balls to spare. Nabi finished on 114 not out in 82 balls with 10 fours and seven sixes, while Vanshaj’s unbeaten 78-ball 69 included seven fours and three sixes.
Until today, neither batter had scored a List A fifty. Nabi’s highest score used to be 45 not out. Vanshaj’s, a mere 10. In fact, Vanshaj had made only 39 runs across all three formats in professional cricket.
This was also the fourth-highest stand for the eighth wicket in the history of List A cricket.
