lowest Test totals

Against Australia at Kingston, the West Indies were bowled out for 27, the second-lowest total in the history of Test cricket.

The West Indies needed to chase 204 to win the third Test of the three-match series, at the Sabina Park Cricket Ground. However, Mitchell Starc (6-9) as good as put an end to their hopes in the first over, striking with his first, fifth, and sixth balls. He took two more wickets with his 13th and 15th balls, leaving the hosts in tatters at 7-5.

When Josh Hazlewood took out Roston Chase to make it 11-6, New Zealand’s long-standing dubious record of 26 all out, the lowest total in Test cricket history, seemed under threat. With two fours, Justin Greaves (11, the only double-digit score in the total) helped them draw level with that, but Scott Boland (3-2) completed a hat-trick to reduce the West Indies to 26-9.

Alzarri Joseph’s single off Starc spared the West Indies the ignominy of equalling the lowest total, but that was as far as they went: Starc cleaned up Jayden Seales with the next ball to bowl out the hosts for 27, now the second-lowest total in the history of Test cricket.
