Australia walloped West Indies by 159 runs to kick off their 2025-27 World Test Championship campaign. Here's what the points table looks like after that.
Both sides bore new looks for their first fixture of the new cycle, as Australia played without either of Steve Smith or Marnus Labuschagne for the first time since 2018, and West Indies made eight changes to their previous Test XI, against Pakistan in Multan.
Electing to bat first, the visitors were bowled out for 180 on day one, as Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph took nine wickets between them. Travis Head top-scored with 59. West Indies reached 57-4 by stumps, Brandon King and Roston Chase unbeaten.
On day two, they were eventually all out for 190, taking a 10-run lead as much of the focus shifted to TV umpire Adrian Holdstock, whose numerous contentious calls drew much ire particularly from the home side. In reply, Australia made it to 92-4 by the end of the day.
Resuming overnight on day three, Travis Head and Beau Webster largely saw Australia through the first session, before Alex Carey stepped on the gas post-lunch. Setting West Indies 301 to win, Australia's bowlers then ran through the hosts to bowl them out for 141 in 33.4 overs. Josh Hazlewood starred with 5-43.
