West Indies quick Shamar Joseph was vindicated after receiving criticism for comments he made pre-series on Australia opener Sam Konstas, dismissing the teenager early on the first day of the series.
The series between Australia and West Indies got underway today (June 25), with Australia slipping to 22-3 within the first 15.1 overs of play. Joseph took the first two wickets after Australia elected to bat first, batting away some criticism he received pre-series.
Speaking to the media ahead of the first Test, Joseph sent a warning to 19-year-old Konstas, who hasn't played a Test since making his debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy six months ago. "Just look out, that's all," was the fast-bowler's warning.
Konstas has come back into the side with both Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne not playing, while it's Joseph's first Test outing against Australia since his iconic spell of 7-68 at the Gabba in 2024.
Considered among the best Test batters in the world, Marnus Labuschagne now finds himself out of the Australia team.

Following his warning to Konstas, former Australia wicket-keeper Ian Healy was critical of Joseph. "He’s had a terrible year since he went through us at the Gabba," said Healy, speaking on SENQ Breakfast. "He had this toe that had blown up and didn’t think he could play, he got out of his injury bed after someone said just come down and try it, and then he realised ‘oh you can play with pain. Shamar has come out today and said to Konstas’ just look out and watch what is coming’."
"OK Shamar well you’ve delivered crap all year. So he better improve, that’s what I’m saying in the dressing room. He’s got real trouble. You’re not Curtly Ambrose, champ."
However, Joseph backed up his warning by trapping Konstas lbw with his tenth ball of the match. After Cameron Green was dismissed by Joseph shortly after, Australia's collapse worsened when they lost Josh Inglis for 5, leaving them 22-3 still in the first hour of play.
