West Indies’ blockbuster home season continues as they host New Zealand in a five-match ODI series from July 11. Here are the ICC men’s ODI team rankings ahead of the series.

Both West Indies and New Zealand are coming into this ODI series after losing their respective previous series. West Indies went down to Sri Lanka at home 0-1 last month in the three-match series. But the last two ODIs of the series were washed out due to rain.
However, the hosts will be hoping for the weather to stay fair for all matches as they aim to win their first ODI series against New Zealand since 2012. West Indies have lost their last three series in the format, with their previous series win coming against Pakistan at home in August last year.
New Zealand fielded a second-string squad captained by Tom Latham against Bangladesh and lost the three-match series 1-2 in April this year. But most of their first-choice players, including skipper Mitchell Santner, are back for this series.
The Blackcaps were on a winning streak of six consecutive ODI series before going down to Bangladesh. They will be keen on returning to the winning ways with an eye on the World Cup next year. New Zealand are also on a five-match winning streak against the West Indies. In fact, they have lost to the West Indies only once in 11 ODIs since January 2014.
As for the rankings, this is an extremely important series for the West Indies, keeping in mind the qualification for the World Cup next year. The eight highest-ranked teams in the ICC ODI rankings as of March 31, 2027, and hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, will automatically qualify for the World Cup.
However, the West Indies currently aren’t among the eight highest-ranked teams. They are currently placed 10th in the latest ICC men’s ODI rankings with 73 rating points. To qualify, the Caribbean side will have to be at least ranked ninth, thanks to South Africa’s automatic qualification as one of the hosts, to make the cut.
Meanwhile, New Zealand are ranked second with 113 rating points, only eight behind India who are the No.1 team in ODIs.
