Hetmyer slammed an unbeaten 69 to help the West Indies gun down 269 runs in the third ODI despite a late collapse in the run chase. The hosts were placed comfortably at 218/4 in the 41st over, but Sherfane Rutherford’s dismissal triggered a collapse. They were reduced to 248/8 by the 45th over, fearing another heartbreak for the fans.

But Hetmyer kept his cool to help the Caribbean side register a crucial win and end the five-match ODI series on a high. Earlier, New Zealand rode on fifties from Will Young, Nick Kelly and Tom Latham to post 268 runs in their 50 overs.

But the total didn’t prove to be enough despite three-wicket hauls from Jacob Duffy and Jayden Lennox. Apart from Hetmyer, Rutherford also scored a half-century for the West Indies as they got over the line with 15 balls to spare.

New Zealand remain in second place in the latest men’s ODI team rankings after the series win over the West Indies. But they lost four rating points for losing two matches to the team ranked 10th.

Meanwhile, West Indies have managed to reduce the gap between them and Bangladesh, gaining four rating points. Bangladesh are ninth in the rankings with 83 rating points.
