The first ODI of the three-match series between West Indies and Pakistan will be played at Brian Lara International Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Friday (August 8). However, rain could spoil the match.
Pakistan enter the series fresh from a 2-1 T20I victory over West Indies and will look to carry that momentum forward. Pakistan's ODI form has been inconsistent - while they enjoyed back-to-back series wins in Australia and South Africa, they subsequently suffered defeat in the final of the tri-series involving New Zealand and South Africa. This was followed by a group stage exit as hosts of the Champions Trophy, compounded by a 3-0 series whitewash against New Zealand.
Meanwhile, West Indies failed to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup and were consequently absent from the Champions Trophy. This series is crucial for them to improve their ranking and climb from 10th position into the automatic qualification spots for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The first ODI will start at 2:00 PM local time, with play scheduled to run until approximately 9:30 PM, taking into account innings breaks and potential interruptions.
See you tomorrow, Trinidad!🇹🇹

WI vs PAK, first ODI: What is the weather forecast?
According to BBC Weather, the chance of rain hovers around 30 per cent through the morning, and afternoon around the start time of 2:00pm.
However, the AccuWeather forecast isn't promising. For the first hour, it shows a 60 percent chance of rain – the highest precipitation probability during the match hours – before dropping to 49 percent in the following hour and 32 percent over the next two hours, continuing to decline thereafter. From 7 PM local time onward, the rain chance decreases to 16 percent and remains steady for the rest of the day.
Google Weather's forecast also predicts persistent rain, though with significantly lower probabilities than AccuWeather. The first hour shows just a 35 percent chance of precipitation, the highest expected during the match.
