Against Indonesia in the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup, Chamari Athapaththu registered the best figures in women’s T20Is by a Full Member bowler.

Chamari Athapaththu completes Full Member record with hat-trick

Defending only 125 on a slow-paced Dubai wicket, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu knocked Indonesia out of the contest by taking 7-5 in 21 balls. Coming to bowl in the fourth over, she struck with her fourth, seventh, and eighth balls.

The hat-trick remained unfulfilled, but only temporarily. She took another wicket in her third over, and began her fourth with three wickets in three balls to complete both her hat-trick and Sri Lanka’s win. Indonesia collapsed to 49, with only Rahmawati Pangestuti (10) and Ni Made Putri Suwandewi (12 not out) reaching double figures.

Earlier, Sri Lanka had themselves been 62-6 before Nilakshika Silva (50 in 35 balls) lifted them to 124-7. For Indonesia, Ni Luh Dewi returned 3-32.

Athapaththu finished with the first seven-wicket haul (and hence the best figures) among bowlers from Full Member Nations in women’s T20Is. The record was previously with Zimbabwe’s Esther Mbofana, who had taken 6-11 against Eswatini in 2021.
