Sophie Devine slammed Sneh Rana for a 32-run over in the 2026 Women’s Premier League game between Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals.
Sophie Devine vs Sneh Rana, 2.0
The New Zealand great turned back the clock, hitting Rana for the most expensive WPL over of 32 runs, almost 11 years after she smashed the Indian all-rounder in a similar fashion in July 2015. Then, Devine had raced to an 18-ball fifty, hitting two fours and four sixes in an over in the first T20I of a three-match series at Bengaluru. It still remains the joint-fastest half-century in women's T20Is.
Now up against the Capitals in the WPL, Devine had got to 33 off 21 by the fifth over when Rana came on to bowl the final over of the powerplay. She started with a boundary before Marizanne Kapp’s drop allowed Devine to get another. Devine then followed it up with four consecutive maximums: first over long-on, then over cow corner to complete her fifty and then two over deep mid-wicket to take 32 off the over and make it the most expensive in the tournament’s history.
Devine continued her onslaught, also hitting Shree Charani for three maximums in an over. She eventually finished five short of a maiden WPL hundred off 42 balls, departing in just the 11th over of the Giants' innings. Ashleigh Gardner played a handy knock of 49 off 26 to take her side to 209, even as Nandani Sharma took a hat-trick for the Capitals.
Deepti Sharma previously held the unwanted record of the most expensive WPL over, when she was hit for 28 runs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2025. Interestingly, Rana was at the other end, hitting three sixes and two fours off her Indian teammate. Tanuja Kanwar is third on this list, having conceded 25 in an over while playing for the RCB against the Giants in 2023.
