Kyle Verreynne hit a third first-class double hundred to help Western Province post a huge total in their CSA 4-Day Cup game against Boland.
Kyle Verreynne hits double ton on CSA 4-Day Cup return
As the CSA 4-Day Cup returned after a break, the Western Province opted to bat first against Boland. However, they lost opener Jiveshan Pillay in the second over, and No.3 Juan James followed him just three overs later.
But captain Daniel Smith and David Bedingham forged a strong 94-run partnership for the third wicket to get their side back on track. Even though the duo fell in quick succession after completing their respective half-centuries, Verreynne held one end to take the team to a formidable total.
The wicketkeeper-batter added 127 runs with Valentine Kitime, who was dismissed on 63, before adding another 162 with Kyle Simmonds, who fell 15 runs short of a fourth first-class hundred. Another century partnership, this time with Josh Breed, followed as Verreynne completed his double ton, the third of his first-class career. Overall, he now has 16 three-figure scores in the format.
Verreynne remained unbeaten as Western Province decided to declare on 533-9. Boland’s innings couldn’t get going as they lost wickets in regular intervals, with none of their batters crossing the 50-run mark. They finished Day 2 at 147-8. A massive 386 runs behind Western Province’s first-innings total.
Verreynne was part of the Paarl Royals set-up that reached the final of the 2025/26 SA20, only to lose to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The wicketkeeper hit a fifty in the final, and overall scored 129 runs in seven games at a strike-rate of 110.25. He was also part of the South Africa Test squad that clean-swept India 2-0 in their backyard in November 2025.
