Pakistan seam-bowler Mohammad Abbas went past 850 first-class wickets when he took a six-wicket haul in a President's Trophy Grade-I match on Sunday (January 4).

Playing for State Bank of Pakistan against Ghani Glass, Abbas was the pick of the bowlers on display on the first two days. Batting first, State Bank of Pakistan were bowled out for 202, of which 113 were made by Abdullah Fazal from No.3.

Abbas started with the new ball for State Bank of Pakistan in their first bowling innings, and struck in the first over, rattling former Pakistan opener Sharjeel Khan's stumps. He then had captain Mohsin Riaz lbw for a duck as well to leave Ghani Glass reeling at 2-3.

Tayyab Tahir (60) and Mohammad Rameez jnr (39) then rescued the innings before Abbas returned to clean up the tail, dismissing the last three batters in quick succession to clean them up for 174.

      Abbas finished with 6-27 from 22 overs, half of which were maidens. This was his 54th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. With this, he went past the 850-wicket mark, having started the game on 848 scalps. Only four Pakistan pacers have more first-class wickets than him, and none of them are active cricketers.

      Exactly one hundred of those 854 first-class wickets have come in Test cricket for Abbas. He made his debut in the format in 2017, and has played 27 Tests so far, the last of which came in South Africa in early 2025. While his first-class average is an exceptional 20.33, his Test bowling average isn't too far behind either, at 23.18.
