Maia Bouchier hit her career-best List A score with a century in Hampshire's One Day Cup win over Somerset yesterday (May 6), days after being called up as injury cover for England's ODI squad.
Bouchier hit 143 against Somerset, leading Hampshire to chase down 282 with 9.2 overs remaining at the Utilita Bowl. After losing opening partner Ella McCaughan in the sixth over of the chase, with No.3 Abi Norgrove falling for a golden duck, Bouchier guided Hampshire into a commanding position.
Coming together with England teammate Freya Kemp, the pair put on a 149-run partnership for the third wicket. Bouchier reached her half-century off her 37th ball at the crease to a cut shot off Lola Harris, which was pulled in just short of the boundary rope. After getting bogged down slightly in the nineties, she reached her hundred off 79 balls and was only dismissed when Hampshire needed just 26 runs to win.
Bouchier's innings came after Rebecca Odgers had also scored a century in Somerset's innings, the first of her professional career.
Maia Bouchier plays statement knock after England exclusion
The century ended an up and down week for Bouchier on a high. She was left out of both England's squad for the T20 World Cup and for their upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. Since making her international debut in 2021, Bouchier has been capped 65 times across all three formats, with two international centuries to her name.
However, she wasn't included in England's squad for last year's 50-over World Cup, after Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont were backed as their new 50-over opening partnership. However, despite Beaumont also being omitted from the ODI squad to face New Zealand, Bouchier wasn't initially included, with Emma Lamb the likely candidate to open alongside Jones.
The day after the squads were announced, Bouchier made 78 off 91 balls in Hampshire's win over Surrey. Later in the week, England announced that Bouchier had been called up to their ODI squad as batting cover, after captain Nat Sciver-Brunt was ruled out with a calf tear.
England will play their first ODI of the summer against New Zealand in Durham on Sunday (May 10).
