India met UAE with a batting blitz in their opening game of the tournament, blasting just short of 300 after choosing the bat first.
Suryavanshi was the standout, hitting 144 off 42 balls in a boundary-fuelled assault. After hitting his first six off his sixth ball at the crease, he went on to hit two more in the following over and reached his half-century off just 17 balls in the sixth over of the match. The second 50 off his hundred took him two fewer balls to bring up, taking him to three figures inside the first 10 overs of the game.
By the end of the 10th over, India were on 149-1, with Suryavanshi on 103 while Naman Dhir – who came in during the second over of the innings – was on 33 off 21. Suryavanshi took 28 runs off the next over single-handedly, hitting four sixes off as many legal deliveries from Harshit Kaushik. His bombardment was only stopped when he was finally dismissed my Mohammed Faraazuddin for 144 off 42 balls.
India A ended their innings on 297-4, after Jitesh Sharma made an unbeaten 83 off 32 balls, including hitting the final ball of the innings for six.
Suryavanshi continues to tear up the record books
At 14 years and 232 days old, Suryavanshi's innings today makes him the youngest player to hit a century for a men's national representative side. Having already made multiple centuries for India U19s in both the red-ball and 50-over format, the Emerging Asia Cup is the first time he's been selected for a senior national team.
He made his first-class debut for Bihar last year, and recorded his highest score in the format earlier this month when he scored 93 against Meghalaya.
His strike-rate against UAE – a scarcely believable 324.95 – is the fourth-highest of any men's T20 hundred. He also sits joint fourth on the list of most runs to come from boundaries during a men's T20 innings (134).
Only Abhishek Sharma and Urvil Patel among Indian players have faster men's T20 hundreds, with Rishabh Pant equal with Suryavanshi on 32 balls.
