Jharkhand’s Rajan Deep became the second batter to hit a quadruple century in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy, doing so in a group game against Meghalaya on Saturday (January 24).

Both part of Group A of the U23 tournament, Jharkhand and Meghalaya faced off in their respective fourth matches of the season as the competition resumed after a break. Batting first, Jharkhand put up 700 runs on the board before reducing Meghalaya to 75-7 by the end of the second day’s play.
Jharkhand didn’t enjoy the greatest of starts, with both their openers departing within nine overs with just 30 runs on the board. But captain Rajan Deep, coming in at No.4, and Nakul Yadav (113) then added 276 for the third wicket, with the duo completing their respective hundreds in the process.
Nakul’s departure only spurred the skipper on, who upped the ante, scoring 38 off 25 in a 63-run stand with the next batter, Shubh Sharma. He maintained the scoring rate, forcing Meghalaya to use every outfield player to bowl, scoring 96 off 93 in a 155-run partnership with Kounain Quraishi and 113 off 83 in an unbeaten 173-run stand with Niteen Pandey.
He brought up his 400 off 387 deliveries and declared immediately, with Jharkhand at 700-5, becoming the second batter to reach the milestone in the tournament. His knock featured 43 fours and seven maximums, a whopping 214 runs from boundaries.
Haryana’s Yashvardhan Dalal became the first batter to score a quadruple ton in Col CK Nayudu Trophy in the 2024/25 season. He scored an unbeaten 428 off 465 against Mumbai in November 2024, helping his side win the game by an innings and 400 runs. Rajan Deep’s innings was the 30th 400+ knock by an Indian batter in organised cricket, and the 80th such knock overall.
In reply, Meghalaya were reduced to 75-7, with Amit Kumar picking up six wickets while one batter was run out. Punjab, also part of Group A are the defending Col CK Nayudu Trophy champions.
