The tournament, which does not have official first-class status, is being held in Tamil Nadu, where several teams from India are participating. Punjab’s first fixture was against Hyderabad, getting off to a rocky start as opener Jaskaranvir Singh was dismissed on the third ball of the innings.
However, IPL star Prabhsimran Singh and Uday Pratap Saharan stitched together a 103-run stand, with the former scoring 69 off 61. Saharan remained unbeaten on 113 off 255 balls.
Punjab lost wickets in a cluster thereafter, falling from 103-1 to 168-4 when Ramandeep, who has played two T20Is for India, walked out. He hit eight sixes in his knock, scoring at a strike rate of 109.90.
Towards the end of the innings, Punjab eyed quick runs as they neared the 90-over cut-off mark, which is when Ramandeep went beserk: The side scored 54 runs in just five overs, with Ramandeep hitting six sixes and three fours between overs 84-89. He was eventually dismissed on the first ball of the 90th. Punjab's innings concluded following the completion of the over, with the score at 348-5.
Ramandeep, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, has a high score of 69* in five first-class games. He has also played 31 List A matches, averaging 29.05, and has a T20 strike rate of 169.21 after 77 games. He is yet to score a professional hundred.
