Aaqib Javed, former Pakistan fast bowler and long-time interim coach has taken up a new role in the Pakistan cricket setup.
Aaqib Javed named high-performance director
Javed has been appointed as the high-performance director, the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed in a press release today (May 13). This comes immediately after the announcement of Mike Hesson as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan team.
"To strengthen our cricket infrastructure, we are pleased to welcome Aqib Javed as the Director of High Performance," PCB chair Mohsin Naqvi is quoted as saying in PCB's release. "His appointment, alongside Mike Hesson as the white-ball Head Coach, marks a significant step forward in our strategic vision for Pakistan Cricket.
“Together, their expertise and leadership will play a pivotal role in the development, evolution and success of our national setup.”

Javed's previous roles in Pakistan cricket
Javed served as the interim head coach of the Pakistan white-ball teams since the resignation of Gary Kirsten, also taking command of the Test side following Jason Gillespie's departure last year.
Before taking on the interim head coach role, Javed had left his head coach job at Lahore Qalandars to become a national selector for the Pakistan senior men's team in 2024. He was associated with Lahore Qalandars from 2016-2024. Javed has also served as bowling coach for Pakistan alongside Waqar Younis in 2012, and was the coach of the U19 side that won the 2004 Under-19 World Cup.
Under his latest coaching stint, Pakistan have played four Test matches, winning one and losing three, 17 ODIs, with eight wins and nine losses, and 13 T20Is, winning three and losing 10.
This marks another entry to the long list of coaching staff reshuffles that have happened in Pakistan cricket in the last few years. Over the last couple of years, the likes of Tim Nielsen, Yasir Arafat, and Simon Helmont have served as high-performance coaches for Pakistan across various assignments.
