Pat Cummins’ side won the 2021-2023 edition of the World Test Championship after beating India in the final at The Oval last summer. However, due to the cut-off point for series contributing to rankings points in the charts, they have only now gone ahead of them in the rankings. Only matches played after May 2021 are taken into account in this update, so India’s 2-1 series win over Australia in 2020/2021 is no longer contributing to rankings points. All match results between May 2021 and May 2023 are weighted at 50 per cent of their worth, while matches after May 2023 are weighted at 100 per cent. Thus, Australia’s wins over England, the West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand, are all weighted at 100 per cent.

The end result is Australia have 124 rankings points and are four clear of second-placed India on 118, with England coming in third on 105 points. This is in stark contrast to the current World Test Championship table, in which England currently sit in ninth and last position, after an Ashes series draw (during which they were deducted points for maintaining slow over rates) and 4-1 defeat to India. India are currently in top spot in the WTC table with Australia in second.

In the ODI rankings, India continue their reign at the top, extending their lead over Australia to six points. South Africa are in third, four points adrift of Australia, with Pakistan, New Zealand and England coming next. India are also No.1 in the T20I rankings, with Australia again in second place with a seven-point deficit. England have moved down a place into third ahead of the T20 World Cup with South Africa and New Zealand rounding out the top five.
