Fakhar Zaman is in the middle of a purple patch, notching up four centuries and as many fifties in his last 10 appearances across formats.
The left-hander is currently featuring in the President’s Trophy Grade-I for Khan Research Laboratories, where he scored 128 and 77 across two innings, extending his golden run of form. Fakhar’s top-notch form began at the back end of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he slammed three fifties and a century in the last four matches for Lahore Qalandars.
His scores read 84, 103, 61 and 58* as the Qalandars bowed out of the tournament in the league stage. The 36-year-old then turned up in the National Champions Cup in August for Pakistan Greens, smashing 269 runs in three matches with two centuries to his name.
The veteran cricketer also won the player of the series award for his stunning knocks in the tournament. Fakhar has carried on his rich vein of form into red-ball cricket, slamming 205 runs across two innings in the first game of the President’s Trophy.
Fakhar hasn’t been a part of the Pakistan team in white-ball formats for quite a few months now. He last donned the Pakistan jersey during the T20 World Cup in February this year. He also played only three matches in the showpiece event where the men in green failed to make the semis.
Several fitness concerns were raised after the tournament and he missed the subsequent ODI series against Bangladesh. He also missed the T20I and ODI series against Australia in May-June but has been playing domestic cricket after regaining full fitness.
However, given Pakistan's current selection crisis and the proximity of the ODI World Cup next year, Fakhar's golden run could see him come back into contention.
