Najmul Hossain Shanto has joined an elite list of batters with his hundred in the ongoing first Test against Pakistan on Friday (May 8).
Shanto sits behind only Bradman and Headley for 50-to-100 conversion rates list
As the Bangladesh Test captain brought up his ninth century in the format on day one of the Mirpur Test, he joined Don Bradman and George Headley as the only batters with at least 10 fifty-plus scores, sporting a 50-to-100 conversion rate of more than 60 per cent. Shanto has gone on to convert nine of his 14 fifty-plus scores in the format into a hundred, which is a conversion rate of 64.30 per cent.
Bradman had converted 29 of his 42 fifty-plus scores in Tests into three figures, marking a rate of 69 per cent, while Headley converted 10 of his 15 fifty-plus scores into a ton. Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan is fifth on the list, having hit seven hundreds and five fifties, whereas current captain Shubman Gill is fifth, with seven of 12 fifties converted.

Most Test hundreds as Bangladesh captain: Najmul Hossain Shanto dethrones Mushfiqur Rahim
Shanto also displaced Mushfiqur Rahim as the Bangladesh captain with the most Test hundreds, scoring his fifth ton as their skipper after taking over in 2023. He scored a ton in his first game as the Test captain, hitting a match-winning 105 against New Zealand. He then hit twin tons in the 2025 Galle Test against Sri Lanka and one against Ireland in Sylhet later that year.

Shanto was dismissed right after completing his hundred in the first Test against Pakistan. He now has 1,116 runs in 17 matches at 38.48 as Bangladesh captain, with five hundreds and two fifties.
