Danni Wyatt-Hodge scored 96 off 83 to rescue Surrey against Durham and guide them to a third consecutive One-Day Cup win on Saturday (April 18).
Danni Wyatt-Hodge follows 124 with 96 in One-Day Cup rescue act for Surrey
Wyatt-Hodge began her One-Day Cup campaign with a 66-ball ton against Warwickshire in the season opener last week, where she finished at 124 off 80 to take Surrey to a mammoth total of 389-9, after rescuing them from 95-4. Surrey eventually won the high-scoring encounter by 52 runs. She missed the second game against Yorkshire, which the side won by three wickets (DLS method), before returning against Durham to play another superb knock.
Durham batted first at The Oval, and captain Hollie Armitage hit her first century of the season after an 81 against Essex in their previous game. Mady Villiers provided strong support to the skipper, scoring 55 off 70 and constructing a crucial 112-run stand with her for the third wicket. Armitage was dismissed for 106 off 123 before Sophia Turner's quick 10-ball 18 saw Durham post 256-8 in 50 overs.
Surrey stuttered in the chase, going three down for 35 runs by the fifth over, with Lauren Filer picking up all the wickets. They were further reduced to 62-4 in the eighth over when Villiers trapped her leg before, bringing Wyatt-Hodge to the middle, where she joined hands with captain Kira Chathli.
Despite being in a challenging position, the Surrey duo scored at a good pace, adding 83 runs for the fifth wicket in 15.1 overs before Chathli became Filer's fourth wicket of the game for a run-a-ball 58. Jemima Spence upped the ante upon her arrival, scoring a 20-ball 27 while constructing a quick 50-run partnership with Wyatt-Hodge off 35 balls, leaving Surrey to score 62 more to get a third win of the season.
Wyatt-Hodge and Maitlan Brown then together added 59 runs, when the latter, with three to win and four to complete her ton, went for a big shot only to get caught in the deep. Brown remained unbeaten at 27. The 96-run knock put Wyatt-Hodge at the top of the run-scoring charts of the One-Day Cup with 220 runs in two games.
