England's squad members picked for the Women’s T20 World Cup have been pulled out of the next round of county fixtures to attend an Army training camp.
Army camp over One-Day Cup: England T20 World Cup squad to miss next county round
All 15 members of the squad will attend a multi-day training programme with the British Army to prepare for the ICC event, which is set to start on June 12. The players have thus been pulled out of the next round of the One-Day Cup, scheduled for Saturday, May 2.
Managing director of the England Women’s cricket team, Clare Connor, said: “We have been working with the British Army over recent months to create a leadership programme for the World Cup Squad. The various elements of the programme will focus on decision-making, resilience and delivering high performance when the pressure is turned up.
“We are extremely lucky to be able to send our newly selected World Cup Squad into one of the best high-performance environments in the world. I’m confident that what the players will experience and learn over the next few days will be priceless when it comes to performing in some of the pressure moments that a home World Cup will undoubtedly bring.”
The lack of county gametime for England's best players has been a point of debate this season. Several England internationals missed the first round of the One-Day Cup as part of the ECB’s workload management, with the T20 World Cup coming up. The board then withdrew all the England Women players from the second round of the competition to play an intra-squad match as part of their early-season preparation.
