New Zealand’s Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips are missing the third Test against England at Trent Bridge. Here’s why.
Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips miss out after starring in Oval Test
Henry and Phillips were New Zealand’s hero in their comprehensive win at The Oval. The quick returned the best-ever match figures registered by a New Zealand bowler against England (11-109), while Phillips registered his maiden Test ton as the visitors levelled the series. But they will now miss the decider due to respective injuries.
Henry is missing out due to a calf injury, while a side strain has kept Phillips from featuring in the Test after both the players experienced discomfort at The Oval.
“Henry felt pain during the second Test at The Oval and subsequent scans on his left calf revealed a low-grade muscle strain,” an official statement from the NZC read. “Initial assessment suggests a recovery time of 2-4 weeks.” No timeline was given for Phillips’ potential return.
New Zealand have been forced into making three changes after Kyle Jamieson was also rested due to workload management. Mitchell Santner, Blair Tickner and Ben Sears have come in for the trio.
England have made four changes to the XI that took the field at The Oval and was led by Joe Root. Ben Stokes returns as the captain, while Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith and Shoaib Bashir are also part of the XI at Trent Bridge. James Rew, Jordan Cox, Matthew Fisher and Sonny Baker miss out.
