Smriti Mandhana (68 from 44 balls), Harmanpreet Kaur (36 from 35), and Richa Ghosh (34 in 17) helped India post 170-6 in their 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup opener, against Pakistan at Edgbaston.

Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza, the Pakistan openers, began well, racing to 37-0 in four overs. Deepti, coming to bowl in the fifth over, took out Feroza with her fifth ball and Ayesha Zafar with her ninth in her following over. After her first spell, her figures read 3-0-8-2.

By the time she returned, Pakistan were seven down and all but out of the match. She sealed the game with three wickets in her final over to help India win by 64 runs. It is worth a mention that she took 5-36 in her previous World Cup match – the 2025 ODI World Cup final that India won.

Her figures today (5-10) are the best figures for an Indian woman in T20Is. Deepti went past Jhulan Goswami’s 5-11 from 2012.
