Pakistan U19 failed to chase down 262 runs as they lost their last five wickets for just 17 runs, losing by just 10 runs to England U19 in the only Youth Test played at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground.

Pakistan’s senior men’s team is in the middle of a forgettable tour of England. But their U19 team was on the cusp of an exceptional win in the same country on Saturday in the only Youth Test against England U19. At one point, they needed 28 to win with five wickets in hand, but they could add only 10 to their total.

The two England spinners, skipper Ralphie Albert and Jack Nelson, shared all 10 wickets. Leg-spinner Nelson triggered the collapse, picking up four of the last five wickets. He caught Hamza Zahoor off his own bowling to break the 33-run sixth-wicket stand and then sent back Hasnain Abbas Dar, Mohammad Sayyam and Rizwanullah to seal a memorable victory for England.

Earlier in the innings, Pakistan recovered from 60-3, thanks to a 124-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Abdul Qadir (80) and captain Farhan Yousaf (47). At 184-3, they seemed to be cantering before Albert dismissed both players and Nelson assumed control.

Albert picked up nine wickets with his left-arm spin, including six in the second innings. He impressed with the bat too, with scores of 88 and 40.

In the match, England U19 posted 333 in the first innings on the back of Bertie Michael’s 131. Manny Lumsden then took a five-for to restrict Pakistan to 305, while Leo Selvey-Clinton smashed 107 in the second innings to help the hosts set a target of 262, which proved just enough in the end.
