Mohammad Amir has joined Nottinghamshire for the rest of the T20 Blast season as a local player.

Mohammad Amir was issued UK passport recently

The former Pakistan fast bowler was issued a United Kingdom passport recently, via his wife Narjis Khan's British citizenship. While he has previously represented Derbyshire, Gloucestershire and Essex, this would be his first county stint as a local player, allowing Notts to play the other two overseas players in George Linde and Mohammad Ali.

Amir, who last played for Pakistan at the T20 World Cup in 2024, is in line to play in the Notts' next T20 Blast game against Kent on Friday, June 26. They currently sit second in the North Group after six matches.

“I’m really excited to have joined Notts," he said upon joining the club. "I’ve heard lots of good things about this club, and I’m looking forward to it. I have lots and lots of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know that T20 is all about entertaining the people, so I’ll be trying my best to do well for this team and make this crowd happy. The team have played the last three games really well, and I’ll be trying to help carry that momentum forward throughout the tournament.”

Notts' official statement further added that as a "British passport holder, Amir will not be counted as an overseas player for the duration of his stay at Trent Bridge, which includes any potential knockout matches that Notts may play."

However, under clause 2 of the regulations governing the qualification and registration of cricketers for county cricket, on top of holding a British citizenship, the player must not “within the 12 months leading up to 1 April immediately before the Season in question,” have “played cricket for any Full Member Country except England at U17 level or above” or “played Professional Cricket in any Full Member Country outside England and Wales.”

Amir, notably, played in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Rawalpindiz as a domestic player. The regulation, however, hasn't affected the fast bowler's eligibility to play as a local player in county cricket.
