Amir Jangoo, Roston Chase set new record for sixth wicket in men’s Tests

Jangoo and Chase shattered several records on the third day of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka, at North Sound in Antigua. The duo created a world record, adding a staggering 401 runs for the sixth wicket. Thanks to their partnership, the West Indies are in a commanding position in the first Test, with two days still to go.

With their marathon stand, Jangoo and Chase broke the Test record for the sixth wicket, previously held by Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. The England pair had stitched 399 runs together against South Africa in Cape Town back in 2016.

Coming back to the historic partnership between Jangoo and Chase, they kept Sri Lanka at bay for 100.2 overs after joining hands in the 51st over with the team struggling at 168-5 in response to 308 runs in the first innings.

Jangoo, playing only in his second Test, notched up 233 with 19 fours and three sixes. However, West Indies skipper Chase was unlucky to miss out on a well-deserved double ton as he got out after scoring 194 with 13 fours and two sixes to his credit.

West Indies in commanding position in first Test vs Sri Lanka

After reducing the West Indies to 168-5, Sri Lanka would’ve dreamt of taking a big lead, but little did the visitors know that the tables would turn on them. The hosts declared on a massive 626-9, taking a huge lead of 318 in the first innings. Sri Lanka have a mountain to climb in their second essay now. To make things worse, they lost opener Pathum Nissanka before stumps, with only 15 on the board in four overs.
