Netherlands pulled off a stunning victory over Scotland in Dundee on June 12, recording the third-highest ODI chase of all time.
Munsey 191 trumped by O'Dowd 158 as Netherlands chase down 370
In the final match of the Scotland-Netherlands-Nepal tri-series as part of the Cricket World Cup League 2, the hosts elected to bat first in Dundee.
The first innings belonged to opener George Munsey, who walloped 191 off just 150 balls, recording the highest individual ODI score by a batter from an Associate team. The next highest score in the innings was Matthew Cross's 59, as Scotland posted 369-6.
Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd got off to a solid start in the chase, putting on 67 before the former was dismissed for 44. Netherlands then slipped to 168-4 by the halfway stage. They had scored at a good clip, but there was the worry they may run out of wickets.
However, No.6 Teja Nidamanuru stuck around with O'Dowd, who made his way to a maiden ODI century. Nidamanuru was eventually dismissed by Charlie Cassell for 51, but that brought Noah Croes to the crease alongside O'Dowd. The pair scored with urgency, Croes getting to 50 off 28 before Safyaan Sharif dismissed him in the 48th over.
By that point though, Netherlands only needed a run-a-ball, and O'Dowd promptly got the job done, finishing things off with a six to seal victory with four balls to spare.
Netherlands set Associate nation world record
The target of 370 chased down by the Dutch is the third-highest ever in ODI cricket, and the highest by an Associate team. Interestingly, the two higher chases were both by South Africa, against Australia, in South Africa. The overall record remains the 435 chased down by the Proteas against Australia in 2006.
This match was also just the seventh time in ODIs that two players registered scores of 150-plus, and the first such occurrence in a match between two Associate nations.
