On Saturday, the BCCI named India's white-ball squads for the tour of Australia. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned, but Shubman Gill was named ODI captain.
Shubman Gill named ODI captain; Rohit, Kohli make squad for Australia ODIs
The main headline from the squad announcement is Shubman Gill's ascension to ODI skipper, replacing Rohit Sharma. Rohit led India to the Champions Trophy title earlier this year, India's last 50-over assignment. Gill was made Test captain ahead of India's tour of England, and earlier today led the team to victory by an innings and 140 runs over the West Indies in his first home Test as skipper.
Having retired from T20I cricket last year, and Test cricket this May, both Rohit and star batter Virat Kohli remain active in ODIs. Both players have made the cut for the tour of Australia.

In addition, batter Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain of the ODI side. The BCCI confirmed last month that Iyer would take a six-month break from red-ball cricket due following a back surgery he underwent last year. Iyer is currently captaining India A in their 50-over matches at home against Australia A.
Dhruv Jurel has been named as the backup wicketkeeper, with Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Kumar Reddy other relatively new additions. Mohammed Siraj returns, after missing the Champions Trophy.
Varun Chakaravarthy, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya miss out from the Champions Trophy squad. Shami's fitness has largely been in question since the IPL, while Pant and Pandya are both currently injured. Chakaravarthy was selected primarily for the spin-friendly Champions Trophy conditions in Dubai.
14 of India's 15 Asia Cup squad members have made the T20I squad, with Reddy replacing Hardik Pandya. Washington Sundar has also been added, to make it a 16-man squad.
