Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect.
India's first Test assignment after their 1-3 defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year is against England, another mega five-Test encounter starting June 20.
Rohit Sharma, India's current Test and ODI captain, has had a tough time in the longest format of late. India lost five of the last six Tests Rohit has captained in, including a historic 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand last year.
While India won the 2025 Champions Trophy under his leadership, it might not turn out to be enough for Rohit to retain his Test captaincy. A report in the Indian Express, on Wednesday (May 7), suggests that he might be removed from the role.
