
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali made a surprise appearance in an amateur Last Man Stands tournament in Clapham Common (south London) on Monday.
What is Last Man Stands?
Last Man Stands is a two-hour, eight-a-side ameatur T20 game. According to the Last Man Stands website, it is the world’s largest and widest-reaching amateur cricket league, with over 260,000 players featuring worldwide. AB de Villiers is the global ambassador for the league, which also has a comprehensive global rankings system.
Moeen Ali lights up Clapham Common
Moeen Ali turned up for Stumps on Corn in a Clapham Common league game against Leg Side Story on Monday (July 28).
Fielding first, Stumps on Corn conceded 170-5 in 20 overs with Moeen bowling four overs for 0-30. Eddie Evans top-scored for Leg Side Story with a 27-ball 52 not out from No.5.
Moeen came out to open the batting in the run-chase. He scored five off his first five balls as Stumps on Corn reached 17-1 in the first three overs. The England left-hander then smashed the first ball of the fourth over for a boundary before hitting his first six off the seventh ball he faced.
From there on, Moeen faced seven more balls and hit five more sixes and one more four, remaining unbeaten on 51 off 14 balls as Stumps on Corn chased the target down with 11 balls and two wickets to spare. Moeen's opening partner Andrew Hester (30 off 15) and No.3 Robert Holmes (46 off 26) also made useful contributions.
Recently, Moeen also played for England Champions in the 2025 World Championship of Legends, making 43 runs from three matches. He also bowled five overs for 56 runs, but did not take a wicket.
Moeen is set to retire from professional English domestic cricket after the 2025 season. He opted out the The Hundred but is part of the Birmingham Bears side that has reached the knockouts of the T20 Blast.
