Doug Bracewell annouces retirement

Bracewell, 35, has retired from all forms of cricket.

The seam-bowling all-rounder played 28 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 20 T20Is for New Zealand in an international career spanning 12 years. He made his debut in 2011, while his last international appearance came in a Test against Sri Lanka in 2023.

Bracewell's domestic career had begun in 2008, for Central Districts, three years prior to his international debut. With the announcement, his 17-year journey as a professional cricketer comes to an end.

In a Central Districts statement, Bracewell said, "It's been a proud part of my life, and something I aspired to as a young cricketer. I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have had through cricket, and the chance to play for my country, as well as for Central Districts, throughout my domestic career. It's a privilege to play first-class and international cricket, and I'm grateful to have played and enjoyed the game for as long as I have."

Bracewell comes from a famed family of cricketers, his father Brendon, uncle John, and cousin Michael all having played Test cricket for New Zealand.

The highlight of Bracewell's international career remains his nine-wicket match-haul in the Hobart Test of 2011 against Australia, which New Zealand won by seven runs. That was their first Test victory in Australia in 26 years, and remains their last Test victory in the country.
