Men’s One-Day Cup is all set to get underway on July 21, Tuesday, with 18 counties vying for the ultimate glory over the next couple of months. Here’s all you need to know about the tournament.
The T20 Blast concluded last week, but the white-ball cricket caravan continues in the English summer this week as the One-Day Cup gets underway. As the tournament clashes directly with the Hundred, the counties rely on their second-string players and academy prospects. It provides the emerging players with an opportunity to showcase their skills and gain more exposure.
As many as 77 matches are set to take place over the next couple of months, with the final of the One-Day Cup scheduled on September 20. The 18 county teams have been divided into two groups of nine each.
The table toppers from each group advance directly to the semifinals, while the second and third-placed teams make it to the quarterfinals.
Worcestershire are the defending champions, having won their first List A title since 1994 last year. They defeated Hampshire in a rain-affected final by three wickets.
