Pakistan have reportedly filed a complaint over a Bangladesh review on the penultimate delivery of their tight run-chase in the third ODI in Mirpur.
Pakistan went down by 11 runs despite a century from Salman Ali Agha to squander the three-match series 2-1 to Bangladesh. They would still have had a shot at overhauling the target on the last two deliveries of the chase if not for a smart Bangladesh review.
Pakistan needed 14 off the last over with Shaheen Shah Afridi, having hit two sixes in the 49th over bowled by Mustafizur Rahman, facing Rishad Hossain. Only two runs came off the first four deliveries, leaving the visitors needing 12 off two, when Rishad bowled one down the leg side.
On-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena deemed it a wide, but Bangladesh instead called for an LBW review, even though it was quite clear that the ball was in no way going to hit the stumps. Replays showed the ball had hit the toe end of the bat, and the wide call was overturned. Pakistan were left needing 12 off the last ball, where Afridi was out stumped.
Pakistan file complaint over Bangladesh review - Report
As per ESPNCricinfo, however, Pakistan are not entirely happy with how the review was taken. They have lodged a complaint with match referee Neeyamur Rashid as they reportedly believe that Bangladesh only called for DRS after watching replays on the big screen. According to the report, Pakistan are also not happy with Dharmasena allegedly allowing Bangladesh to take the review after the stipulated 15-second window.
Batting first, Tanzid Hasan’s maiden ODI century took his side to a competitive 290 in 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan were in a spot of bother at 17-3 inside three overs, and were further reduced to 67-4 when Agha took guard. The all-rounder went on to hit a third ODI century but ultimately fell short of partners, and was the eighth wicket to fall in the 48th over with his side still needing 30 off 14.
Earlier in the series, Salman Agha was run out by Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz in controversial circumstances in the second ODI, which drew a sharp reaction from the Pakistan batter. His side had, however, won the game comfortably to square the series 1-1.
