The PCB have revamped their men’s selection committee following a poor showing at the T20 World Cup 2026.
Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed added to Pakistan men's selection committee
Former Pakistan captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed have both been added to the men’s national selection committee. Their appointment follows the departure of former umpire Aleem Dar, who, as per A Sports, resigned from his post after Pakistan’s ouster from the T20 World Cup.
The duo of Misbah and Sarfaraz join former Test players Aqib Javed and Asad Shafiq in what is now a four-member selection committee. Misbah has previously served as Pakistan’s chief selector and as the head coach of the senior men’s team.
Misbah is among Pakistan’s most successful Test captains. He captained the team in 56 Tests - the most for any Pakistan skipper - between 2010 and 2017, and helped them to 26 victories for a win percentage of 46.42. Only Waqar Younis (58.82 win %) and Saleem Malik (58.33 win %) have a better success rate for Pakistan in Tests among captains to have led in at least 10 matches.
Sarfaraz, on the other hand, captained Pakistan in 50 ODIs and led them to 28 wins, with the most famous of the lot being the Champions Trophy 2017 final victory over India. The former wicketkeeper most recently served as the team manager and mentor for Pakistan’s under-19 side that won the Asia Cup in December 2025.

The change in the selection committee comes after Pakistan were knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026, having won only four of their seven matches at the competition. They could beat only Sri Lanka in the Super Eights stage, but not by a big enough margin to improve their net run-rate and finish second in the group.
The Pakistan ODI team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a three-match series between March 11 and March 15. A 15-member squad for the tour was announced on Wednesday (March 4), with Shaheen Shah Afridi continuing as the captain, while Babar Azam was dropped.
