Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq responded to Cameron Green's gestures after his dismissal during the second Pakistan vs Australia T20I with an Instagram story on Sunday (February 1) morning.
Cameron Green mimics baseball-style 'throw' after dismissal
After conceding 198-5 in 20 overs, Australia lost captain Mitchell Marsh in the third over of the run-chase at the score of 22. That brought all-rounder Cameron Green to the crease. After taking two runs off his first three balls, Green launched into Saim Ayub in the sixth over to hit him for six, four, and six off consecutive deliveries.
Pakistan, however, kept striking at the other end, forcing Green to slow down and look to consolidate. By the end of the 10th over, they were 71-5. Tariq then came on to bowl his first over of the match and dismissed Green off the fifth ball, getting him to slice a short and wide ball to the point fielder.
Green was visibly unhappy as he walked off. He was seen mimicking a baseball-style 'throw' trying to replicate the bowling action Tariq used for the wicket delivery.
Tariq's action has been under the scanner ever since he burst onto the Pakistan Super League. He has been reported for a suspect action twice in the PSL, but has not been eventually suspended by the PSL or the ICC. Tariq claims his unusual action is a by-product of his 'unique body dimensions' and having 'two elbows' in his arm.
Usman Tariq responds with cheeky Instagram story
Following the match, which Pakistan won by 90 runs, Tariq put up an Instagram story in the early hours of February 1, seemingly in response to Green's actions. The story has a video of a frustrated young boy beginning to cry in the middle of making an argument, and a caption "After getting out 😆".
While Tariq didn't explicitly mention anyone in the story, it wouldn't be a stretch to guess he was referring to Green. He eventually finished with figures of 2-16 in 2.4 overs, also picking up Matthew Kuhnemann's wicket.
The two teams meet again for the third and final T20I of the series today (February 1) in Lahore.
